Kayaking & Canoeing
Negotiate the beautiful river Dronne by canoe or kayak with the option of being accompanied by a qualified guide. The well established Parcoul canoe rental company is only a three minute drive from Maison Metcalf
Horse riding
Enjoy a day out on horse-back in the country side at St Aigulin, 10 minutes away. Pony rides are available too. For those wanting a few lessons beforehand, the equestrian centre Marker Aurora in La Roche Chalais (5 min) is well respected in the area
Amongst the trees!
For all the budding Tarzans out there, this is a great day out at St. Aulaye, 15 minutes from us. With various courses set for different age groups (starting from as young as three years) it is the perfect activity for the entire family. Take a break at the lake side beach across the road with its great restaurant and snack bar with play area on the sand
Fishing
Fishing on the Dronne is now allowed for everyone who loves to fish (permits required). Dedicated areas are set out along the river at La Roche Chalais (5 minutes), or go one step further, hire your own 5-man electric boat at St. Aulaye and explore the wild life around the lake. No permit is required for the boat
Quad bikes and Jet skis
Teenagers and adults alike, love to whizz around on one of these. Enjoy a day of adventure not too far from Maison Metcalf
Golf & Tennis
Play a quick 9 holes before breakfast! An easy golf course and great tennis courts at Manoir de Longeveau is 30min away. Saint Emilion now boasts its very own, swanky course (40min)
Archery
Take up a bow while mum is in the trees. The archery spot forms part of the tree swinging area at St. Aulaye
Cycling
Bicycles are available to hire at Parcoul’s canoe rental area, or hop on one of our cycles and explore the beautiful countryside around us. The even terrain means getting about is easy and fun – jump in the pool for a well deserved cool down afterwards!
Walking
With so many forests around us finding a path is not difficult. Guided half day or full day walking tours are available at La Roche Chalais (5 minutes). In the valley of the Dronne and the Forest Double are 32 marked walking and cycling routes that varies from 3km to full day walks for visitors to explore. Alternatively, choose one of the many quiet country lanes around us and find your way down to the river Dronne.
